Chuck P has been talking up big time this book by Craig Clevenger, THE CONTORTIONIST'S HANDBOOK. I started it this morning, and must say that I'm hooked. It was hard to put down once I started. He does a great job of getting you into the head of and identifying with a first-person protagonist that is a real scumbag. I can be a slow reader sometimes, dragging a book out for weeks or months. I'll be surprised if I don't finish this one today.

Re: Contortionist's Handbook
Thu, February 5, 2004 - 5:24 PMLeave your feedback here after you read it, please. I have yet to hear of anyone that has read it that didn't love it. I just recommended it to two coworkers yesterday. It's gripping and short, so it isn't like having a second job to read it. I sat down on a Saturday afternoon, read almost all of it and then finished it over breakfast Sunday. Compared to these giant tomes I had been reading, it was refreshing to get in, read and love the book and get out in the same weekend.
The narrator is so far outside of the norm in almost every way that I was fascinated. I wouldn't want to get within a mile of him or his life if he was a real person, but I was captivated riding the trainwreck of his life with him for a few hours.
