I'm new here and I thought I good introduction would be if everyone shared how they came to know about Chuck..
I used to work at a book store when Fight Club first hit the shelves. And since I was the kid stocking the shelves I got my grubby little hands on the book and couldnt put it down. (I have yet to see the movie) But I have been a faithful reader of his work.

Mon, April 12, 2004 - 6:30 PMmy girlfriend.
Started dating her, she made me see the movie and threw all the books my way.
i am forever in debt to her.
I may be a bigger fan than she is.

hard to tell.
I took her to see him a couple of times, I hope that makes up for it a little.

Mon, April 12, 2004 - 8:23 PMYeah Andrew you should tell your girlfriend that she kicks ass.
I found out about Chuck from being my random self. I was walking through a book store, saw the book with a picture of Brad Pitt on it, remembered I liked Fight Club, and then decided to start with Invisible Monsters..from that day on I was hooked! -

Re: How did you find out about Chucky P?
Wed, May 19, 2004 - 6:41 AMWell I always did love Fight Club as a movie.
But I never really knew about the author.
Then someone asked me to do a short min&15sec theme for a mock trailer for choke. So I wanted to know about the story, so I bought it without knowing anything.
Needless to say, its my favorite book I've ever read.
Unfortunately I lent it to a co-worker, who then got a new job, moved away and never bothered to send me the book. So my favorite book needs to be re-purchased!
I just finished Survivor yesterday, so I can happily say I'm a big Chuck P fan now. His writing just seems to say to me "hey i know you" plus it just flows so well.
anyways i'm glad i just found this group, didn't know if there would be one. sweet -

Re: How did you find out about Chucky P?
Mon, May 24, 2004 - 10:32 PMI'm new here too. I saw Fight Club twice in a row. Did not even know it was a book. Loved it. Then randomly, a year and a half later, a friend came to visit from out of town, and brought me Survivor as a birthday present. I was mainly shocked that he remembered my birthday. No one ever remembers my birthday, usually not even me. My first reaction to the book was, "Hey this looks really good..what the hell kind of last name is that?" The book sat on my shelf for a couple of months. I finally picked it up and read it in 2 days. I was hooked right then and made a mental note to read everything he put out. To this day, my dog-eared and re-read in the bathtub copy of Survivor is one of my favorite possessions. Thanks to John for the birthday gift that spawned a pseudo obsession. -

Now I am currently in LA just read Choke ... maybe I will start going to the fancy restraunts in Beverly Hills and getting people to save my life :-) Chuck is Awesome!!!

Re: How did you find out about Chucky P?
Tue, February 28, 2006 - 10:33 AMGreetings to all in this apparently dormant tribe.
WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!
OK. Now that I have your attention, please allow me to introduce you to Christopher Moore:
www.chrismoore.com/
I have very much enjoyed all of Chris's output, and while checking out his website one day to find out when his next book was due, I stumbled upon his recommendations for other books to read while I waited. He had lots of good things to say about our boy Chuck.
I decided to start with Fight Club and read Chuck's work in chronological order. (I still haven't seen the movie, though it is on my Netflix Queue somewhere.) Unfortunately, my local library can't seem to keep all their copies of Fight Club from vanishing! So one day when my wife was going to the library I asked her to just pick any Palahniuk she could find. She brought me Invisible Monsters.
At first I found the writing style and subject matter a bit odd. I would read a few pages then have to go back and reread them again to make all the pieces fall together into a coherent picture in my mind. After awhile I got used to it and began to quite enjoy his quirky style.
Choke, which I read next, seemed a bit more polished, and easier to relate to, as well, addict that I am!
Guts was interesting. When I am folding freshly laundered clothes, it's hard to pull sleeves right side out without thinking about Guts.
I just finished Lullaby and liked it a lot. There seemed to be more of a narrative style about it than either Choke or Invisible Monsters. And of course after I turned the last page I had to go back and read all the italicized chapters again.
My darling wife got me Fight Club as a Valentine's Day present, so that is my next read. If the first couple of chapters are any indication, I shall enjoy it immensely!
And oh what joy to still have so many of Chuck's books to look forward to!

Re: How did you find out about Chucky P?
Thu, March 8, 2007 - 1:18 AMI was had closed up my soap making operation and was seeking a supplier for my shop. I was talking to my best friend about it and he told me I should see Fight Club because "it's about soap and you'll like it". So, I went to see and I liked it a whole lot. I have it on video. I bought the book and read it and liked his style. I learnt that he has worked with Tom Spanbauer, who is also a favorite writer.
When I was taking a long vacation in Ontario, I started checking all his books from the library. I put myself on the waiting list for whatever was checked out and myself checked out everything that was on the shelf. Now I want more. I don't know how many really good books Chuck has in him but I have never been disappointed.
After I read "Guts" I started wondering if those hot tub drownings where people with long hair get it caught in the works are more than the accidents the reports make them out to be.
